Manama: The British embassy in Manama remained open on Sunday, hours after a small explosion occurred inside a minibus parked near the building.

“It is business as usual,” an embassy staff told Gulf News. “We are operating normally and the offices are open. Everybody is fine and we are working with the police on the issue.”

The interior ministry reported the incident on its Twitter account at around 3am. The embassy compound in downtown Manama includes the official residence of the UK ambassador to Bahrain.

The residence was built on the shore of Manama in 1902. However, the building collapsed in 1954 and was re-built the next year.

Iain Lindsay, the current ambassador, took over this summer from Jamie Bowden who was transferred to Oman.
