Manama: A farm belonging to a senior security official was targeted by masked men who set ablaze two buildings and three cars in an unprecedented case of arson of private property owned by a high-ranking personality in Bahrain.

Indians labourers working on the farm reported that about 30 masked men hurled Molotov cocktails at the buildings on the farm of Shaikh Abdul Aziz Bin Atiyatallah Al Khalifa, the prime minister's security advisor, shortly after midnight on Thursday.

"The arsonists moved around the farm in groups and threw the Molotov cocktails after they broke into the buildings and smashed the windows of the three cars," an eyewitness was reported as saying.

"They later surrounded the building where the workers were sleeping and set it ablaze, prompting most of them to jump from the first floor to escape," he said.

An attempt to burn the stable was foiled by the workers who managed to put out the blaze, the witness said.

Shaikh Abdul Aziz, in a statement to the press, said that his farm in Karzakan, an agricultural village west of Manama, had been targeted by rioters since 2002.

"They have often attacked the farm, but this the first time that they have gone inside and set buildings and cars on fire. It is a dangerous escalation," Shaikh Abdul Aziz said.
