Manama: An assessment of human rights progress in Bahrain will be included in the first transparency report to be out late this year, an activist said on Monday.

The President of the Bahrain Transparency Society Abdul Nabi Al Ekri said in a statement that the report would be drafted by the society in cooperation with a team from all sectors such as activists, journalists, lawmakers, economists and educators to ensure that it tackles all aspects of development in Bahrain and areas that should be improved.

The report will be the first transparency report ever to be released in Bahrain and it is expected to come with recommendations. It will be the first activity report for the newly elected board members and would monitor the performance of ministries and official organisations, as well as the annual report of the Financial Audit Court, tenders and state budget, he said.

"Before drafting the report, training would be conducted with team members, in cooperation with concerned international organisations," Al Ekri highlighted.

Discussions

"Corruption affects the growth of the national economy so the report will tackle irregularities in Bahrain and urge to deal with them," he said.

Besides the report, the society will organise in October open discussions about parliamentary interrogation of ministers that took place early this year in association with parliamentarians, academics and politicians.

"The society will focus on its new phase to enhance the concept of transparency in Bahrain through a host of awareness mechanisms to fight corruption," he said.
