Islamabad: The number of Pakistanis who died in the September 24 Mina stampede during the Haj pilgrimage has risen to 76, the government told the Senate here on Monday.
Presenting a report in the upper house of Parliament, Minister of State for Religious Affairs Pir Aminul Hasnat said 47 Pakistanis were injured in the tragedy.
He said the deaths of 29 Pakistani pilgrims have been confirmed by the Saudi authorities and, of these, all except one were buried in Makkah Mukarramah.
Meanwhile, the body of Asad Gilani arrived Multan on Monday, the minister said.
Hasnat said seven Pakistani pilgrims were still under treatment in hospitals while 40 others were discharged after treatment.
He said 60 Pakistani pilgrims were still missing.
The minister said officials of the Pakistani Haj Mission initially participated in rescue and relief activities until the Saudi army and law enforcement officers arrived at the scene of the tragedy.
He expressed hope that the Saudi Government would share outcome of the ongoing investigations into the incident.
Over 769 pilgrims were killed in the stampede, which left at least 934 others injured, according to reports quoting Saudi authorities.
The crush occurred as pilgrims were performing the Haj ritual of stoning the devil at the Jamarat Aqaba.
