Islamabad: Pakistan is to purchase an undisclosed number of twin-engined helicopters from an Italian aerospace company under a contract signed in Islamabad.
The contract was signed in presence of the Italian Ambassador to Pakistan Stefano Pontecorvo, according to a statement of the Italian company Leonardo-Finmeccanica.
AgustaWestland AW139 helicopters, each costing $10 million (Dh36.7 million) each, will be used for tasks such as civil protection, transport and search and rescue operations.
The helicopters will be delivered in 2017.
