Islamabad: Pakistani military air strikes on Saturday reportedly killed at least 12 suspected militants in northwestern tribal region along the Afghan border

According to security officials eight militants were also injured in the air strikes in the Tirah Valley in Khyber Agency, one of Pakistan’s seven semi-autonomous tribal districts.

Militant sanctuaries in Tirah Valley have been regularly targeted in the ongoing military offensive, launched in June last year in North Wazristan where, according to military officials, most of the territory has been cleared of terrorists.

On Friday, the military claimed a major success in Khyber Agency by capturing four strongholds of militants and killing 27 anti-state fighters.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Army Chief General Raheel separately reiterated on Saturday the resolve to hunt down all terrorists.

In a statement condemning an attack on a former federal lawmaker in Bajaur tribal area, the prime minister said the Zarb-e-Azb military operation has yielding positive results and the terrorists are on the run.

The networks of terrorists have been destroyed in the operation, the prime minister said.

Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif, while attending in Rawalpindi near here funeral of an army captain killed in Khyber Agency clashes with militants, said the forces would continue the fight “till elimination of last terrorist.”
