Islamabad: A countrywide drive for reverification of Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs) began in Pakistan on Friday, officials said.
The National Database Registration Authority (NADRA) is conducting the campaign aimed at detecting and blocking any cards fraudulently obtained by aliens.
Pakistan has more than three million registered and unregistered Afghan refugees and may have reportedly managed to get Pakistani identity cards.
NADRA has established a helpline capable of handling 10,000 calls per day and a gateway of 150,000 SMS per day to facilitate people who will report suspected CNICs issued to aliens.
It will ensure utilisation of all its resources to achieve the desired objective of removing aliens from the authority’s database within the given timeline, a senior official said.
The authority has completed all arrangements to make the national drive a success.
NADRA has also prepared a media strategy for awareness of masses in this regard.
The authority has launched a reward scheme under which those giving information about presence of foreigners with Pakistani identity cards or passports would be given cash awards.
