Peshawar: Three paramilitary soldiers from the Frontier Corps were killed and two others were wounded yesterday in an explosion caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) near Mir Ali in North Waziristan.
Officials and tribesmen in the area said an explosion triggered by a remote-control device targeted the vehicle carrying the personnel of Khyber Rifles, which is part of the Frontier Corps, in Karamkot near Mir Ali town.
The militiamen were on patrol for providing security to a Pakistan Army convoy passing through the area. The military convoy was on its way from Miranshah, headquarters of North Waziristan, to Bannu.
Refugee beheaded
Another more credible version of the incident is that an IED was planted at a Frontier Corps post by the roadside in Karamkot area. It exploded when the Frontier Corps men came there in the morning to take up their positions.
Meanwhile, the beheaded body of an Afghan refugee was found in a dry stream in a remote part of Bajaur tribal region with a note that described him as a spy for the United States.
Officials and villagers said the note warned that this would be the fate of anyone found spying for America.
The deceased was identified as Haji Khair Gul, son of Haji Mohammad Umar. His beheaded body was found in Tangi Khwar in Charmang area.
His head was kept on his chest when discovered by passersby yesterday morning.
