The terrifying moment an avalanche triggered by the Nepal earthquake engulfed the Everest base camp has been caught on video by a German climber.
Jost Kobusch can be heard shouting ‘the ground is shaking’ as he feels the tremor seconds before the avalanche hits.

It begins with what appears to be footage of normal life at the location where climbers gather before attempting to reach the world’s highest peak.
But soon it becomes apparent that something is wrong as Kobusch feels the ground move under his feet.
He pans around to show panicking climbers running for cover. The YouTube caption of the video reads: “The ground was shaking from the earthquake and as soon as we saw people running we were running ourselves to save our lives.”
The looming cloud of ice and snow is then caught for the first time on camera.
Before it soon becomes apparent the climbers’ lives are in danger.
The flags in the above picture can be seen one moment...
...but the very next second they are obliterated.
Kobusch and his climbing companion hunker down in their tent. He can he heard saying: “Hold on to my jacket.”
This is the only shot of his face in the whole video.
They eventually clamber out of the tent after the avalanche passes, rushing to help others buried by the impact.
The disaster which killed several climbers at the camp, with the earthquake death toll rising to more han 3,200 as of Monday morning.
