Singapore: The second day of the International Indian Film Academy Awards started with a proverbial bang in Singapore. Stars including Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra are already on the tropical island gearing up to have some fun.
“It’s been a great year and I am really nervous about making my dad dance on stage tomorrow,” said Kapoor to reporters as he arrived early Friday morning. His blockbuster Rockstar has been nominated in several categories.
The morning belonged to South Indian idol Kamal Haasan who unveiled his ambitious film Viswaroop.
“This is the costliest film in my career. But it’s not just about money, it’s about making your visions true,” said Haasan. The legendary media-shy actor is also the scriptwriter and the director of the bilingual film made in Tamil and Hindi.
“I have always confessed that I am a reluctanct actor. I never thought I wanted to be in front of the camera. There was this lurking Mr Hyde inside me who wanted be behind the camera calling the shots,” Haasan said. He also introduced his discovery and leading lady Pooja Kumar.
“The auditions were done on Skype since she was not based in India,” he said.
The film also boasts a special appearance from award-winning director Shekhar Kapur.
“I have been trying to convince him to make a film with me for six years… this time I woke him up and he did it out of friendship,” said Haasan. The release date is yet to be finalised.
Meanwhile, the evening saw plenty of green-carpet action as celebrities including Farhan Akhtar, Ranbir Kapoor , Bipasha Basu, Sonakshi Sinha and Priyanka Chopra turned up in designer best to enjoy IIFA Rocks, the annual music-fashion extravaganza.
