Thiruvananthapuram: A woman in Kerala’s Kozhikode district who raised an alarm, stating that a stranger had put her infant in the washing machine after spraying chilli powder in her face, has got herself in a tangle. After initial questioning, police suspect that the woman herself may have done it all.
The incident was reported from Kakkad, near Mukkom in Kozhikode. The woman, identified as Fazna, wife of Fayarddin, and her infant child who is less than a month old, were taken to the Medical College Hospital after she said someone had broken into her home, sprayed chilli powder on her face and dumped the infant in the washing machine.
Initial investigations led police to suspect that the story was cooked up by Fazna. Their suspicions were reinforced by the fact that there was no attempt at any theft in the house by the alleged stranger, and also the fact that the chilli powder used in the ‘attack’ was from the family’s kitchen.
According to police, Fazna had changed her statements multiple times during questioning. One local media outlet reported that Fazna had resorted to the drama owing to torment she faced from her mother-in-law.
