Dubai: A new app that will allow blood donors to easily donate blood to people in need was launched by the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) at Gitex.
The Dubai Blood Donation Centre app is one of the many smart applications that DHA is launching during Gitex this year. While the app is now available, added features of the app and system will be completed in November.
Dr Mai Raouf, director of the Dubai Blood Donation Centre, said the app will allow blood donors to locate the nearest blood donation centres through their phones.
“It will also allow blood donors to answer donation eligibility questionnaires and read pre-donation educational material through their mobile phones before they come to the donation centre. The smart app will also inform the donors about their next donation date,” she said.
Dr Raouf said that launching the app is in line with DHA’s vision to provide services to customers at the click of a button to support the authority’s vision of creating a happy and healthy society.
“Through this app donors can also receive appreciation letters and invitations for activities related to blood donation through their smart device and get notification for donation campaigns.”
She said that the system is a comprehensive management of the donation process from recruiting to inventory and distribution.
“The app will help avoid human errors and add an extra layer to transfusion safety,” she said.
Amani Al Jasmi, director of Information Technology Department at DHA, said the Dubai Blood Donation Centre is implementing a smart integrated donation management system based on a world-leading technology, Hemasoft, in line with the best international standards ISBT 128.
In addition to the Dubai Blood Donation Centre app the authority will also be showcasing its institutional performance-measuring system Thermometer, which ensures precision in evaluating project effectiveness.
DHA will also be displaying the steps it has completed in creating and using 3D printing technology in the medical field, hence fulfilling the ‘Dubai 3D Printing Strategy’ of using 3D technology in health treatment such as developing 3D printed teeth, bones, artificial organs, medical and surgical devices and hearing aids.
