Ras Al Khaimah: The Traffic and Licensing Department announced yesterday that its team of investigators have solved the Eid Al Fitr hit-and-run case, which claimed the life of an elderly Indian expatriate.
The investigators arrested an 18-year-old Emirati driver M.S.K, who was found trying to repair his vehicle in Ajman.
Colonel Nasser Salem Muradad, who heads the department, said the driver ran over the victim early on the morning of Eid Al Fitrand fled the scene.
There were no eye-witnesses in the case.
At the accident scene, investigators recovered small pieces of glass from the front lights of the vehicle.
After studies, they concluded the car was a red Lumina manufactured between 2003 and 2004.
A search of spare parts shops and agencies revealed that a customer bought spare parts for a car of the same description. A salesman also tipped the police that that the particular car was not in Ras Al Khaimah, but in the Al Manama area of Ajman.
The vehicle's owner was contacted and he confessed to have given it to M.S.K on the day of the accident. M.S.K. was arrested with two of his brothers, who knew about the accident, but failed to report it.
The three of them are accused of getting the official repair document issued from another emirate and were fixing the damages in the car after the accident when they were arrested.
RAK's Traffic and Licensing Department coordinated with Ajman Police and seized the vehicle. A forensic expert recovered blood and hair of the victim on parts of the vehicle.
