Al Ain: Traffic police in Al Ain have fined more than 6,600 motorists from July 1 to 27, 2008, for committing various road offensives.
The action was prompted by growing number of road accidents, taking the lives of more than 70 people and injuring scores of people in 2008.
"We have booked 6,680 motorists for different traffic offences from July 1 to 27, and would not tolerate any unruly behaviour that endangers safety and security of other road users," said Lieutenant Colonel Harib Khamis Al Khaili, deputy director of Al Ain Traffic Police and Patrol Department.
He said over speeding is the major offence and police has booked 826 persons under this violation.
