Dubai: More than 30 truck drivers will be deported for jumping the red light, Gulf News has learnt.
Dubai Police's Traffic Department has cancelled the driving licences of 39 truck drivers for jumping the red light since the beginning of this year until July 22, said a senior police official.
The drivers have been referred to the Criminal Investigation Department for legal action after which they will be referred to immigration authorities for deportation.
The move comes upon the decision of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, in November 2006 to ensure the safety of road users and curb reckless driving by truck drivers.
A senior police official from the traffic department said the department is keen on curbing offences committed by truck drivers as the accidents involving trucks are usually fatal.
Police reported on Saturday a man was killed and another injured when a truck collided with another truck on Al Khail Road in the morning. A truck driver had pulled over on the hard shoulder when the accident happened.
