Dubai: The bodies of three Filipinas, who were killed in a road accident on Sunday, will be repatriated once police investigations are over, said Edwin Mindosa, consul general of the Philippines in Dubai.
"Our home office in Manila has got in touch with the relatives of those who lost their lives. The company where the three women were employed has also been keeping in touch with the families. The company is also ... making arrangement for the repatriation of the bodies," said Mindosa.
A memorial service for the Filipinas - Michelle, Cecile, and Ethel - was held yesterday at St Mary's Church yesterday, which was attended by a large number of friends.
A similar service was held at Cafe Ritazza located in the Spectrum Building in Dubai on Monday.
Sheril, an Indian, along with the Filipinas, were killed with their Egyptian driver Mohammad Nada in a road accident early on Sunday when their minibus swerved near Dubai Police Officer's Club, landed on the opposite side of the road and was hit by a car. The staff members were on their way to work.
The five staff members were employees of the Abu Dhabi National Hotel Company/Compass under which the coffee shop operates.
"The three Filipinas were documented members of [Overseas Workers Welfare Administration] and entitled for an insurance coverage," said Mindosa.
Marlyn Vail, Welfare Officer at the Philippine consulate, said: "Each of them is entitled to 220,000 Pesos [Dh17,866] under the insurance coverage by the Philippine government.
"Richard Ingente, a Filipino who was injured in the accident and is currently in a hospital, is also entitled to insurance coverage under disability assistance. His condition is said to be stable but we will pay him a visit at the hospital," said Vail.
