Dubai: Staff at Dubai Police's traffic department will be placed under scrutiny as part of a new campaign to crack down on illegal window tinting.
Brigadier Mohammad Saif Al Zafein, Director of Dubai Police's Traffic Department, said the motive behind the campaign, which started this week, focuses on alerting traffic department personnel, traffic public prosecution employees and licensing department employees at the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), that they need to be a role model for others.
Brigadier Al Zafein said the campaign emphasises the importance of abiding by the permitted tinting level which is 30 per cent.
He said the traffic department is the authority that implements the law and fines offenders. Therefore, they must be the first to abide by it. Brigadier Al Zafein pointed out that being a Dubai Police employee means abiding by its principles, values and plans.
Major Saif Al Mazroui, acting deputy director of the department, said Deira and Bur Dubai traffic control staff will monitor the entrances and exits of vehicles. If employees do not abide by instructions, they will be issued a traffic fine and this could even escalate to confiscation of their vehicle.
He said the traffic department confiscated 82 vehicles from owners who had made illegal additions.
