Sharjah: His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, has ordered the construction of 15 mosques in central and eastern areas of the emirate.

A campaign to encourage the public to make donations towards the construction of the mosques has already been set up, according to Shaikh Saqar Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Chairman of Sharjah Islamic Affairs and Awqaf.

As part of the government's move to enhance Islamic preaching, the Sharjah Consultative Council intends to launch an institute to train imams to work at the new mosques.

The institute will help a to enhance the skills of the preachers in all parts of the emirate through its training programmes and workshops, which will be conducted by experts.

The Islamic affairs department is currently also working on the improvement of 18 mosques in the emirate.

The campaign has received a great response from the public, particularly in the eastern areas.
