Dubai: A judge has approved bail for the British couple who were convicted of indulging in sexual activity in public last week, Gulf News learned on Tuesday.
The Dubai Court of Misdemeanours sentenced 34-year-old British male visitor, V.A., and his 36-year-old compatriot female, M.P., to three months in jail followed by deportation after they were found guilty of partaking in sexual activity in public and of committing a public indecency.
Their lawyer, Hasan Mattar, told Gulf News on Tuesday that appeal's judge Mohammad Abdul Aziz looked into his clients' bail petition which they submitted at the Public Prosecution's Criminal Rulings Execution Section.
"The judge finally approved to bail my clients... they are considered on bail now until the Dubai Appeal's Court holds its first hearing on November 18," said Mattar.
Public Prosecution sources told the newspaper that the couple surrendered themselves to the Section shortly after midday.
They were kept inside the Section for nearly one hour before their lawyer Mattar won them bail shortly before the end of working hours at the Dubai Courts.

Presiding Judge Hamdi Mustafa Abu Il Khair, who pronounced last week's ruling, also fined the couple Dh1,000 each for consuming alcohol.
The couple was on bail during the court proceedings and did not attend the verdict announcement on October 16. The lawyer told Gulf News earlier that he would submit his response in the appeal petition.
The lawyer, who sought his clients' innocence earlier, argued that the statements of the prosecution witnesses contradicted with the technical evidence.
