Dubai: A worker has claimed that he unintentionally killed a Saudi visitor in what he described as 'self defence' when he appeared in court on Monday.
The Public Prosecution charged the 20-year-old Bangladeshi worker with the premeditated murder of Saudi visitor, E.A., after he repeatedly stabbed him and stole the victim's wallet which contained 14 credit cards plus some of his belongings. The murder took place in the flat where the deceased lived in the International City.
The suspect, N.K., who appeared before the Dubai Court of First Instance showed to Presiding Judge Abdul Majid Al Nezamy a knife injury in his left elbow which he claimed to have sustained when he fought back the deceased. He pleaded not guilty to premeditated murder.
A 30-year-old Emirati policeman who was among the police team that arrested the suspect cited him (N.K.) as saying "the deceased touched my behind and asked to have sex with me... before I grabbed a kitchen knife to scare him away but we fought and I stabbed."
A 27-year-old Emirati first lieutenant testified that the victim's friends reported him missing.
"Police investigation revealed that the suspect who worked in a supermarket was reportedly involved in the murder... when we questioned him he claimed that he went to clean the victim's flat. N.K. alleged that the victim asked to have sex with him but he refused and ran to the kitchen and grabbed the knife... the victim took the weapon away from his (N.K.) hands and injured his arm before the suspect took it back and stabbed him," stated the policeman during the Public Prosecution questioning.
Records said the victim was found dead lying in a pool of blood.
The court will assign a lawyer to defend the suspect when it reconvenes soon.
Investigations also revealed that the suspect stole the victim's credit cards and other electronic gadgets
