Ras Al Khaimah: A Sudanese national spent many hours yesterday at the premises of the emirate's court house without being able to divorce his wife since he couldn't find two witnesses to sign the divorce document.
The man identified as Omar asked for the help of many people in the premises of the court house, and also went out to the typing shops but failed to raise two people to be the witnesses for the divorce.
When the man, who is married to two women, lost hope and could not find the witnesses, he went back home without registering his divorce, promising to come back another day.
Omar, who wants to leave his first wife, told Gulf News that finding people to sign divorce documents at the court is almost impossible and that many people have turned his request down. He added that people do not even give excuses but they directly refuse the request and clearly state that they would never be witnesses to the damage of households.
The man said that he tried to call some of friends to approach the court house and sign the divorce document, but some of them refused and others claimed they could not leave their work as they knew the divorced wife.
He said that court clerks asked him to come up with two witnesses and could not be allowed to fill the divorce application unless he got the witnesses. A senior court official adviced those who desire to divorce their wives that they should take the witnesses issue seriously before starting the legalities of the divorce.
