Dubai: An electrician has been jailed after he confessed to filming women and teenage girls wearing miniskirts in a hypermarket, although his lawyer said he was suffering from a mental disorder.
Records said the 43-year-old Emirati electrician pleaded guilty.
The Dubai Court of First Instance sentenced the accused, A.S., to one year in jail and confiscated the pictures.
"I am guilty ... I did it," the accused told the court earlier.
His lawyer sought a reduced jail term after he claimed that his client was mentally unstable. However, he was found mentally fit in an examination.
A 34-year-old first corporal testified how he saw the man filming up women's skirts in the hypermarket.
The accused was arrested when he left the hypermarket and taken to the security office.
The verdict is still subject to appeal.
