Sharjah: A maid's lover faces death for murdering a man who sexually harassed his partner, a 25-year-old Sri Lankan.
The Sharia Court sentenced Bandula, 29, a Sri Lankan, to death for brutally murdering Nano by slitting his throat using three huge knives.
His partner, Jisha, was given two years in jail followed by deportation for aiding the crime.
The victim's parents are asking for the death sentence to be given to the suspects. The woman and her lover claim that they are husband and wife and that their marriage certificate was in Sri Lanka.
The two accused were arrested at the departure gate at Dubai International Airport, while trying to flee to Sri Lanka. An immigration official at the airport recognised Bandula as there was an arrest warrant out for him.
The immigration official grew suspicious of Bandula on seeing scratches on his hands and several deep wounds. The crime happened at a building in the Al Mussalah area on Al Zahra Road in August last year.
Jisha worked as a part-time maid for the victim's family, but was asked to leave a few days before the incident because she had stolen from the house.
The victim's son discovered the crime when the family, the wife and his daughter went on vacation to India.
The son was expecting his father to come to work but he did not. He went back home to see his father lying in a pool of blood in his bedroom with his throat slit.
The accused told police that he killed the victim because he asked his partner to come to his apartment to have sex with him. Bandula told police that he asked Jisha to keep the house door open.
He said the victim took her to his bedroom and he started watching a pornographic movie with her on his laptop.
Bandula said he entered the bedroom and tried to throttle him, but he could not. He then brought a small knife from the kitchen to kill the man but this did not work either.
The suspect told police that he brought a bigger knife, but still could not kill him. He finally found a huge knife with which he slit the victim's throat.
He washed all the knives and stole Nano's laptop and mobile phone. Bandula told police that he forgot the stolen items in the taxi he fled the crime scene in.
The building's watchman told police that he saw the housemaid leaving the building in a hurry at the same time of the murder.
Jisha told police that when Bandula tried to kill the victim she left for their place in Al Ghubaiba where they lived together as husband and wife.
She admitted aiding the killer and Bandula admitted killing the victim using three different kinds of knives.
