Joyous millions join Iran victory parade

As some 50 American hostages marked their 100th day in captivity, millions of Iranians turned out in a steady rain to celebrate the Islamic revolution with a victory parade through Tehran. The crush was so great that scores of people were injured and a grandstand collapsed, the state radio said.

In a message read to the crowd, which Teheran radio estimated at two million, revolutionary leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini did not mention the hostage situation but said Iran's struggle must continue against the 'ruthless' U.S.

Call to observe rule on foreign investors

Some members of the Abu Dhabi National Consultative Council have demanded that no exemptions should be made to the rule which stipulates that foreigners running business in the UAE should have local partners. The Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs recently announced that lawyers, doctors, chartered accountants and consultants may be exempted from the requirement of having local partners for functioning in the UAE.

New president for federation

Saeed Ahmad Al Oteiba will succeed Saif Al Ghurair as president of the Federation of UAE Chambers of Commerce. Oteiba, who is also chairman of the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce was elected president of the Federation at a meeting of the Board of Directors held in Abu Dhabi.

The chairman of Umm Al Quwain Chamber of Commerce Eid Rashid Al Kharji elected as vice-president in the place of Abdullah Abu Khatir.

Keegan joins Southampton for £400,000

Kevin Keegan surprised the soccer world when he agreed to join English First Division side Southampton from West German champions Hamburg. Southampton manager Lawrie McMenemy announced his sporting coup at the club's headquarters here and added: "It's a bigger day than our Cup flnal win in 1976 because the signing of Keegan represents progress. The England Captain and European 'Footballer of the Year' will cost Southampton about £400,000."
