Ras Al Khaimah: The Ministry of Labour on Wednesday made an announcement in which it said it will very soon make important amendments to the temporary work permit following key indications of low demand among companies in the private sector.

"The current version of the temporary work permit has never stood up to the ministry's assumed expectations following the low demand of the private companies," said Saqr Gobash, the UAE Minister of Labour.

"Some hindrances and difficulties including the fees and other procedures have caused the low demand where the ministry will instantly address these hindrances and come up with the necessary amendments," he added.

Gobash was speaking during his inspection visit to the emirate's Labour Department to monitor in person the work flow and see the hindrances facing the department.

"It is of fundamental importance to differentiate between the visit visa and the temporary work permit," he warned, adding that a visitor to the UAE is not allowed under any circumstances to work here, but the holder of the temporary work permit has the legal right to work. "Working visitors will be subject to tough penalties," he warned.

Gobash also announced that the rule is still in effect and labourers should not work during midday hours.
