Umm Al Quwain: The woman whose decomposed body was found in a plastic bag under a tree in Umm Al Quwain on June 26 has been identified and her killers arrested. She was a 24-year-old Chinese tourist.

The mystery behind her death was solved following a joint investigation by crime specialists of Dubai and Umm Al Quwain police who pieced together scant evidence and scanned volumes of records.

Colonel Humaid Mattar Ajeel, Director of Criminal and Investigation Department at Umm Al Quwain Police, said the body was discovered by a municipality worker on June 26 while doing his daily rounds.

The unidentified woman was found tied up and wrapped in a plastic bag which was placed under a tree along a road aligning with Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road.

Police investigation indicated that she was killed in another place 40 days before the body was found.

During investigation, the police did not find any matching fingerprint for the victim due to which they turned their focus on missing and absconding reports across the country.

After three months of investigation, police managed to identify the woman through DNA testing. She was a 24-year-old Chinese woman who came to the UAE on a tourist visa in August last year, Col Ajeel said.

The police suspected four men of the same nationality as being linked to the crime and arrested them.

The suspects confessed that the murder happened in another emirate and they dumped the body in Umm Al Quwain.

They told the police that one of them had been involved in a dispute with the victim and murdered her while the others helped him get rid of the body.

Col Ajeel thanked the Dubai Police for their cooperation with the various aspects of the case. He commended the efforts of the police in solving the case despite the lack for evidence and other difficulties.
