Mum. That’s the sweetest word in the world. While mums should be celebrated every day, this special day gives us an opportunity to express our love to God’s most beautiful creation — Mother.
There are many ways to do that including buying them flowers, chocolates or clothes, or taking them out for dinner.
Here in Dubai, a group of Indian women chose to pay tribute to mothers in a video with music maestro AR Rahman’s Maa Tujhe Salaam (Mother I Salute Thee) as their theme.

With no professional help, no formal training in film production or acting, 35 mothers — some of them working women — took time off over several weekends to shoot this video at nine locations that took them to the unforgiving desert to the green environs of Barari and to the picturesque Jumeirah Beach.
Some of these ladies share their thoughts on their mothers and what Mothers’ Day means to them.
“I feel Mothers’ Day should to be celebrated every day. Mother, the backbone of the family, the main influence on every kid’s upbringing and of the whole society, must be respected throughout the year,” Sheefa Krishnakumar says.
Echoing her sentiments, Sandhya Ajit says: “For me a day is not enough to celebrate mothers. Every day is tribute to all mothers who stand like Gibraltar for their kids to guard them from all stormy weather conditions.”
Unconditional love
She says a mother’s unconditional love reigns supreme over all material wealth.
Sudha Sandadi, who conceived this video, says: “A mother is the most lovable and adorable person. No love can exceed or even match the love of a mother for her child. She has been blessed with the power to nurture a complete life in her womb with intense love and care.” Wishing all the wonderful mothers a Happy Mothers’ Day, she seeks God’s grace and protection for them.
“All that I am — or hope to be — I owe it to my mother and I think the best gift a father can give his children is loving their mother unconditionally,” says Sridevi Diwakar.
“Mother is the one who knows what’s best for her kids. Right from bringing you into this beautiful world, teaching you every single thing in life, sacrificing all her pleasures just to you smile — that is unconditional love. Not just a single day; but we need to glorify her every single day,” she adds.
“Nature’s greatest miracle, a giver of life; a never-ending wellspring of love. Your greatest friend; your staunchest ally — but beware she’s the strictest dragon around. All in one beautiful package.”
That’s mother personified for Priya Vishnu.
For Nandini Giridhar, the bond between a mother and child is the "most beautiful and inseparable". She says: “She [a mother] is always there for us, to help selflessly without expecting anything in return except love. I feel more secure and relaxed with my mother, and there is no substitute for it.”
Sunitha, who sees no logic in earmarking a day to celebrate Mothers’ Day, says after becoming a mother herself, she realised a few more things about motherhood that made her celebrate all the mothers more — and made her a more firm believer that she doesn’t need a specific day to do that.

She almost sounds poetic: “Mothers are the silent shadows who are there with you whenever needed, whether she is on this earth or in the stars looking down on her child.
“Mothers are those special beings who take the brunt of everything bad happening around them and face the world with a calm exterior to protect the children.
“Mothers understand what you are going through just by taking one look at you or hearing the first sound of your voice on the telephone!”
Mother-of-two kids Nilima Gurana says a mirror reflection of the MOM spells out the word 'WOW'.
She goes on to quote Rudyard Kipling. "God could not be everywhere so he created moms... She's an epitome of sacrifices yet wears a composed smile all the way, forgives your blunders, tucks in your inabilities just to make you a complete human being...yes, [a] MOM is just WOW... happy mothers' day."
Radhika Sriram, a mother and entrepreneur, sums up the sentiment: “Mothers hold their children’s hands for a while, but their hearts forever.”
