Abu Dhabi: Ministry of Interior (MOI) has urged motorists on Saturday to abide by the traffic rules and regulations while driving in order to curb road accidents.

According to certain figures, 15 people have been killed in 183 accidents in the UAE this current year.

“Statistics have showed that motorcycle accidents which occurred during the period from January 1st until December 15 this year saw a slight decline by only two accidents,” Brigadier Gaith Hassan Al Za’abi, director general of the Traffic Coordination Department at the MOI, said.

“About 167 people have been injured moderately and seriously this year,” Al Za’abi added.

Most of the accidents, which happened this year between January and December, resulted from 82 motorcycle crashes, followed by 37 accidents where pedestrians were run over.

“All motorists should adhere to traffic regulations and laws, comply with speed restrictions and avoid negative behaviour on internal or external roads,” he advised.
