Sharjah: A campaign that rewards safe drivers with Dh1,000 cash ended on Thursday after awarding about 50 motorists over five days in Dubai and Sharjah.

The Porsche RoadStar initiative that promotes responsible driving ended in Sharjah after rewarding the last 10 motorists selected there.

It was held in Dubai from October 19-21 and in Sharjah from October 22-23.

The final winners on Thursday were Dina Tarek, Tanveer Hussain, Kadeeja Jasreen, Rashid Bacha, Ashragah Gasamullah, Jafar Sulthan, Abdul Wahid, Muhammad Haneefa, Nicholas Ashill and Zherly Pensona.

They were pulled over — separately in various areas — to receive the prize.

All drivers in the campaign were selected after being discreetly observed driving safely by police and campaign organisers. They also won certificates honouring them as RoadStars.

Many of those who are pulled over in the campaign are surprised – even uneasy – at being stopped by police, wondering if they have done something wrong.

It was the 32nd edition of Porsche RoadStar, held biannually since 1998.

The campaign, which runs for five days, promotes safe driving and rewards drivers who adhere to traffic rules in the strictest sense, by giving them Dh1,000 and an appreciation certificate endorsed by the police of the emirate.

Those following speed limits, lane discipline, wearing seatbelts, signalling at turns, parking diligently, and other traffic rules are selected by the campaign.

The five-day campaign is organised by Ciel events and sponsored by Porsche Centre Dubai, Al Nabooda Automobiles, and co-sponsored by RSA Insurance, Mobil 1, Gulf News and Radio 2.

The campaign is also made possible by Emirates Motor Sports Federation in association with Dubai Police and Sharjah Police.
