Dubai: A mother has been accused of assaulting her three-year-old daughter and causing her injuries and burns, a charge that she denied on Tuesday.

The girl’s Emirati father was said to have rushed his daughter to a hospital in Sharjah shortly after he picked her up from her mother’s residence.

A Sharjah Sharia Court had granted the Emirati couple a divorce earlier and gave the girl’s custody to the 29-year-old mother.

Records said the father had won a court order that allowed him to pick up his daughter on Thursday and Friday of each week.

When the father went over on a weekend in February to pick up his child, he spotted injuries and mild body burns before he rushed her to hospital.

Medical reports confirmed that the girl was beaten a week before her father had rushed her to hospital.

Doctors who examined the girl reported that she had injuries on her legs and slight pain in her shoulder.

Dubai prosecutors charged the mother with assaulting the girl and injuring her.

The suspect denied her accusations before the Dubai Misdemeanours Court and entered a not guilty plea.

The father was also said to have provided the court with a copy of medical reports confirming that his daughter had sustained first-degree skin burns caused by an iron.

Records said the father reported to the police that his daughter had been assaulted but he did not specify who assaulted her.

He claimed in his police complaint that his child sustained the injuries while she was at her mother’s house.

When questioned by prosecutors, the mother denied being responsible for her girl’s injuries and contended that the maid was ironing while her daughter was playing on the bed. The child fell and hit the hot iron by mistake.

The father has also lodged a civil compensation claim against his ex-wife.

The trial continues.
