Dubai: The Director-General of the Government of Dubai Media Office and Chairperson of Dubai Press Club Mona Ganem Al Merri was named “Most Influential Arab Media Personality in 2014”.

Mona Ganem Al Merri was honoured in recognition of her contributions to the industry, which included the annually organised event by Dubai Press Club known as the Arab Media Forum.

Al Merri’s honouring was part of the Electronic Media Award ceremony held in Cairo, Egypt, as a wrap up to the 4th Arab Electronic Media Forum. A number of Egyptian and Arab media figures, writers and intellectuals attended the event held on Saturday.

“Dubai Press Club has always kept pace with the changes and developments in the Arab media scene, and we are rather eager to take a proactive role in shaping media reality to provide high quality content,” said Mona. “We are quite confident that Arab media can cope with latest international industry trends, showing highest level of professional competency”.

She also added that organising an event such as the Electronic Media Forum helps provide a new platform for media currently developing in the region. The media industry, constantly experiencing rapid changes, requires media workers to expect and react positively to the changes in order to overcome challenges and embrace opportunities.

“Cairo is the capital of Arab Media and DPC has always enjoyed strong relations with Arab media community generally and Egyptian media in particular,” said Muna Busarma, Director of Dubai Press Club. “We are happy to have such relations, and we are keen to further develop through continuous exchange of visits and ideas.”

Busarma explained that the exploration of new avenues has prompted innovation, creativity and positive development in Arab media. The following elements should and will act as key prerequisites for media excellence to fuel the Arab Media industry’s success.
