Dubai: Dubai will soon have more schools affiliated to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), as the demand for the curriculum rises among the Indian expatriates here.
Currently, Dubai has three of the five CISCE curriculum schools in the UAE, while rest of the Indian schools operate under the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) curriculum.
Speaking to Gulf News following the inauguration of the new campus of JSS International School, which is one of the three CISCE schools in the city, Dr G. Immanuel, chairman of CISCE, said the CISCE curriculum is in demand and more schools will be opening soon.
“Some schools have approached us and we are in talks with them and studying their proposals and I can tell you that more CISCE schools are in the pipeline for Dubai,” said Dr Immanuel.
He added that earlier there was a perception among Indian parents that CISCE curriculum is not suitable for writing entrance exams for medical and engineering, which is changing now.
“According to the NCERT (National Council for Educational Research and Training), CISCE is the best Indian school curriculum, we are more student friendly as we don’t have a fixed number of subjects. We give students more options and focus on their holistic learning,” said Dr Immanuel.
He said that the recent results have shown that the CISCE students have achieved a higher pass ratio in the Indian Institute of Technology entrance exams as well as in other entrance tests.
In Dubai, the new JSS campus opens up 2,000 seats, doubling its capacity from its old campus.
The new 4.5-acre facility, which opened at Jumeirah Village Circle on Friday, can accommodate up to 4,000 students.
“At JSS, we believe that every student is a genius, so it becomes our great responsibility to crest that environment where his/her potential is maximised,” said Lata Nakra, principal, JSS International School.
The school that caters to students from pre-kindergarten to grade 12 is equipped with a state-of-the-art auditorium, sports facilities including an Olympic-size swimming pool, as well as a play area for KG students.
“We believe that students should be independent learners with teachers on their side guiding them at every step. And we also like our students to be more inquisitive and for that, having the right environment and infrastructure is very important and that is exactly what we have tried to create on the new campus,” added Nakra.
The other two CISCE schools in Dubai are Ambassador School and Modern Academy.
