Dubai: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, yesterday (Sunday) received Dr Abdul Latif Bin Rashid Al Zayani, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).

Shaikh Mohammad and Al Zayani reviewed the GCC development progress and achievements made in various social, economic and security domains. They referred to the keenness of the GCC leaders to activate the role of the council and its bodies and committees to realise economic integration in different fields.

They also discussed security and defence coordination between the GCC states, which significantly helps establish peace and security in the region.

Shaikh Mohammad took stock of Al Zayan’s report on GCC developments and measures taken by member states to achieve common national goals, especially in economic and security fields as well as the integrated political coordination in conferences and meetings.

Shaikh Mohammad expressed satisfaction at GCC developments and stressed the support of the President, Government and people of the UAE to the GCC progress and efforts aiming to implement decisions and recommendations issued by GCC leaders to serve the interests of their peoples.

He described the GCC as the protective shield that maintains the achievements and resources of its peoples in all areas.

Shaikh Mohammad and the GCC Secretary-General also reviewed agendas of the 37th GCC Summit hosted by Bahrain on December 6 and 7.

During the upcoming summit, GCC leaders will meet with the UK Prime Minster Theresa May.

The meeting was attended by Mohammad Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs and Future, Dr Anwar Mohammad Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, and Reem Ebrahim Al Hashemi, Minister of State for International Cooperation, as well as other Shaikhs and senior officials.
