Berlin: General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, received yesterday at his residence in Berlin Frank-Walter Steinmeier, German Foreign Minister.

During the meeting they discussed relations between the UAE and Germany and ways to enhance them for the mutual benefit of both nations and their peoples.

They discussed bilateral relations in the field of politics, economy, investments, trade, and stressed the importance of further developing them to achieve the aspirations of both countries.

The meeting also touched on issues of mutual concern and recent developments and events on the regional and international level.

Present during the meeting were Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister; Ali Mohammad Hammad Al Shamsi, Deputy Secretary-General of the Supreme National Security Council; Juma Mubarak Al Junaibi, UAE Ambassador to Germany, and a number of Emirati and German officials.

Shaikh Mohammad also met with Klaus Wowereit, mayor of Berlin, at his residence.

Shaikh Mohammad expressed his happiness in visiting Berlin that is known for its history, arts, sites, creativity and huge industries, where he pointed out the importance of making use of the available expertise and the opportunity for setting up joint projects and programmes.

Shaikh Mohammad is in Berlin on a one-day visit.

During the visit, Shaikh Mohammad is set to meet with German Chancellor, Angela Merkel.

Shaikh Mohammad described UAE-Germany relations as a model that can be looked up to. He said that since diplomatic relations with Germany were established in 1972; they were based on mutual understanding, benefit and respect.

“The signing of a strategic partnership agreement in 2004 is the culmination of long standing relations with political, economic and cultural links between the two countries. The agreement was a starting point for a new era, and has contributed to advancing the relations, which is reflected in an increase in the number of exchanged visits between both countries’ senior officials,” said Shaikh Mohammad.

He added that despite the progress made in these bilateral relations, both countries’ are aspiring for more development due to the huge potential for cooperation and partnership that the UAE and Germany possess, which will in turn reflect positively on the people of both countries.

Shaikh Mohammad said that relations with Germany are more significant than ever, due to the fact that both countries share the same views regarding regional and global issues, which therefore contributes to achieving stability, security and peace on the regional and international level.
