Al Ain: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, on Saturday visited Haili Oasis in Al Ain where he inspected its archaeological sites.

He was accompanied by Shaikh Tahnoun Bin Mohammad Al Nahyan, the Ruler’s Representative in the Eastern Region, and Shaikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs.

Shaikh Mohammad’s tour included a visit to the Bin Rabih Tower, which was built in the 19th century. The tower was rebuilt by the Department of Antiquities and Tourism in the 1980s. It was reconstructed on the top of the ruins of the old tower that once protected the oasis.

The ruins had to be removed due to its bad state of preservation, and was replaced with the existing tower, which was built using mudbricks and clay, while stones were used to support its foundations.

On the second leg of his tour, Shaikh Mohammad visited farms in Hili Oasis, which just like other oasis in Al Ain, is irrigated by a water system that brings underground water from the north of Al Ain along 10 kilometres.
