Abu Dhabi: General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, yesterday inspected updates and progress of work on various projects currently being implemented in Abu Dhabi.

Shaikh Mohammad stressed that continuous work on achieving sustainable development requires an advanced infrastructure that keeps abreast with the development witnessed by the UAE, and is in line with the directives of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan in enhancing the UAE’s reputation and position, which will in turn benefit Emiratis.

Shaikh Mohammad, accompanied by Shaikh Hazza Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, National Security Adviser and Deputy Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, was briefed on various infrastructure and road network projects in different parts of Al Ain and Abu Dhabi. These projects are implemented as part of ongoing plans to modernise and expand the infrastructure networks of Abu Dhabi and Al Ain to cope with urban development and the growing population.

Shaikh Mohammad listened to a detailed presentation on new projects pertaining to improving the electricity network in Abu Dhabi, and the approval of setting up five power transmission stations valued at more than Dh268 million. He was also briefed on the progress achieved in the Union Rail’s first line as part of the first phase of the project.

Shaikh Mohammad attended the Executive Committee’s meeting, which discussed the recent trial operations of the 140-km Habshan-Al Ruwais Port line. The first phase includes the Shah-Habshan railway line, which is a 264-km-long rail line that is expected to be completed this year. The rail line will be initially used to transport freight and later will expand to passenger services.

The project will be split into two phases.
