Heritage Week kicks off in Dubai
The campaign will also announce a new "Heritage Footprint" initiative
Dubai: To showcase the rich heritage of the emirate, Dubai Municipality launched Heritage Week on Sunday at Falcon Museum, Nad Al Sheba.
The week-long awareness campaign marks the World Heritage Day which is observed on April 18 and aims to educate the public on the importance of tradition and culture. Organised by the Architectural Heritage Department and Dubai Municipality, the event will include a stamp exhibition, lectures on falconry, and photography exhibition in various locations in Dubai.
In a media statement, Abdullah Rafee, the Assistant Director General of the civic body said, "Our heritage and tradition is the most precious treasure grandfathers left for us. What else should we celebrate and showcase for the world? Here we invite all residents and visitors to Dubai to enjoy it."
The event will see collaborations between Dubai Municipality and bodies like Emirates Philately Association, Dubai Women Establishment, Dubai Centre for Disabled, and World Wide Fund for Animal Welfare. Highlights of the event include a workshop on gypsum arts; book exhibition by Dar Al Hikma; and launch of a Heritage Train at Creek Park.
The campaign will also announce a new "Heritage Footprint" initiative that will address international conventions and agreements framed to preserve and develop heritage sites.
