Six modern facilities to be built for people with special needs in Abu Dhabi

The state-of-the art centres will be constructed at a cost of Dh3.782 billion

Abu Dhabi: Six new state-of-the-art facilities will be constructed in the emirate of Abu Dhabi for people with special needs at a cost of Dh3.782 billion.

This was announced yesterday by an official at the Zayed Higher Organisation for Humanitarian Care and Special Needs (ZHO).

"The facilities will be built in Abu Dhabi [2), Al Ain [2], Al Qaou and Ghayathi. They will provide excellent services on a par with the best international standards and in line with the strategy of making the capital among the world's top five nations that care for people with special needs," Mohammad Al Hameli, secretary-general and deputy chairman of ZHO, told Gulf News.

"The Government and the leadership of Abu Dhabi are committed to encourage and help people with special needs to become productive citizens of the country and provide them with all opportunities to fulfil their dreams and goals," he said.

Zayed Higher Organisation has 13 centres and sports facilities for people with special needs. They provide education and training, medical and psychological, as well as social and family services.

Over 2,000 people, including orphans, are beneficiaries of the organisation. In the past three years, about 530 students have been integrated in educational institutions.
