Abu Dhabi: The Ministry for Federal National Council Affairs will work within the vision of leadership to foster a culture of political participation, and boost cooperation between the FNC and the government to further contribute to improving the government performance, Noura Al Kaabi, Minister of State for FNC Affairs, said on Wednesday.

Al Kaabi was speaking at a media briefing titled 10 Years of Achievements.

She added that the ministry would also strengthen parliamentary work systems to build a system of governance that becomes a role model globally.

Al Kaabi praised the leadership’s wisdom, which inspires continuous innovation and creative work in an effort to develop society and establish the “government of the future”.

The minister also thanked Dr Anwar Mohammad Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, on the leadership he showed when he led the Ministry of FNC Affairs.

She said Dr Gargash contributed to the development of the relationship between the FNC and the government by his successful management of last year’s elections.

“The achievements of the Ministry of Federal National Council Affairs were driven by the wise directives of UAE’s leadership,” Al Kaabi said.

Al Kaabi said the ministry played an important role in organising the FNC elections in 2006, 2011, and 2015, adhering to the highest standards of accuracy and transparency, which attracted regional and international interest in the UAE electoral experience.

“In the past decade, our coordination efforts led to successful discussions of 121 draft laws, 53 public issues and provided answers for 405 questions put up by FNC members to the ministers.”

Al Kaabi said the ministry’s 2017-21 strategy will focus on improving the relationship between the government and the FNC and promoting a culture of political participation in different segments of society, particularly, the youth, where the ministry will seek to heighten their political awareness and knowledge about the political empowerment programme of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Shaikh Khalifa’s speech on the occasion of the UAE’s 34th National Day in 2005 is a national agenda with clearly defined objectives, said Al Kaabi; it seeks to encourage political participation by enhancing the role of the FNC.

The ministry works to not only educate young Emiratis, but to also enable them to effectively contribute to the development of the UAE.

To that end, the ministry events targeting the youth have been organised, such as an annual forum designed specifically to promote political awareness among university students, which enabled them to actively participate in organising the FNC elections last year.
