Dubai: MBC Group has donated Dh3 million to the Reading Nation campaign launched by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

When launched on the first day of Ramadan, the campaign set a goal to distribute five million books to children in need around the world. The wide participation and response from individuals and businesses have allowed the campaign to exceed its goal to reach more than 7.3 million books.

Shaikh Walid Al Ebrahim, founder and chairman, MBC Group, said the campaign “gave us as a media group the chance to further support refugees and the needy people. Through MBC channels, we have been following and reporting the issues of the region including conflicts and refugee crises. We realise how great their needs are. We are equally conscious of the negative effects that might result from ignoring them and their requirements. This campaign is the UAE’s way of assuring them that they have friends who stand by them, care for their cause and will not leave them alone.”

Dubai Cares CEO Tareq Al Gurg thanked Al Ebrahim and the MBC Group for the donation. He said: “The overwhelming response we received has helped us surpass the set goals. People have inspired us. We will continue to help those in need with the support of our leadership and society.”
