Ajman: Police say a 19-year-old GCC national attempted suicide after he tried to steal a car on the same day he was released from jail after serving a three-month sentence connected to an automobile theft.
He was caught by authorities during the botched car theft.
The suspect, identified as A.S., had planned to steal a vehicle after leaving the jail in Ajman.
He carried out his plan the same day he was released from the jail.
He did not even wait for a few days, an official explained.
Personnel from the Criminal and Investigation Department said was taken into police custody where he attempted to end his life but failed.
The suspect was breaking the floor of his custody cell and eating pieces of the tiles. Detainees shouted and asked police to help.
Police officers intervened quickly and saved him, and then transferred him to Khalifa Hospital for treatment.
