Ajman/Sharjah: An Asian man was arrested for stealing Dh107,000 from an unlocked car parked at a school zone in Al Jurf area in Ajman, Ajman Police said on Monday.

Colonel Abdullah Saif Al Matroushi, director of the Criminal and Investigation Department at Ajman Police, said the owner of the car, identified as G.W.A., left his car parked at the school without locking it. He left an envelope containing the cash inside the vehicle while he went to pick up his children from the school.

He found the envelope missing when he returned to the car. He immediately reported the incident to Ajman Police who formed a team to investigate the case.

The thief was arrested in cooperation with Dubai Police and Dh16,000 was recovered from him along with a receipt showing transfer of Dh81,630.

The police also recovered some jewellery items from the suspect.

Col Al Matroushi urged residents not to leave cash and or valuables in vehicles. He also asked community members to be cautious when carrying large sums of money.

Meanwhile, Sharjah Police have arrested four juvenile suspects who allegedly broke into dozens of vehicles and stole valuables in four days.

The car owners reported damage to their cars and in some cases valuables were stolen. The gang forced open windows to break into the cars, leaving little evidence of the break-ins. Confused car owners later discovered cash and other valuables missing from their vehicles.

An official said the four suspects, aged 17, were unemployed.

He urged residents to report such crimes to 999, 901 or the toll-free number Najeed 800151.
