Sharjah: Police have arrested a man accused of persuading a housemaid to abscond from her employer and to go to work for him instead.

The Afghan suspect, identified as N.Q.K., is accused of convincing a domestic helper from Al Dhaid to run away. He is said to have given her shelter and promised her a better paid job.

Colonel Ahmad Saeed Bin Hareb, acting Director of Police Central Region, said they received information from the maid’s sponsor saying that his maid had run from his house and was seen getting into a car.

Police formed a team to track down the maid and the man who helped her run away. Police managed to determine the location of the suspects and arrest them.

The maid confessed that the main suspect had convinced her to run away from her sponsor, saying he would provide her with a better paid job.

The suspects have been referred to the public prosecutor.

Colonel Bin Hareb said the police, in coordination with patrols and CID officers, are making great efforts to curb such activities and such campaigns will continue.

He urges all community members to cooperate with police in reporting such issues and never to provide absconding maids with shelter.
