Dubai: A 42-year-old Tunisian man has been accused of hitting an Uzbek woman on her head with a sharp object several times and stealing her handbag, a court was told on Tuesday.
Prosecuters charged the man with robbery.
Court papers said the Uzbek victim was waiting for the lift in her building at around 7.30am when the man attacked her from behind on October 20 last year. The man stole her bag, which had a smartphone worth Dh4,500, her bank cards and Dh52 in cash.
The woman screamed and the building’s guards and the neighbours came out to see what was happening. The woman then felt light-headed and the guards called the police and an ambulance.
The man was identified from CCTV footage and was arrested.
