Sharjah: The fifth edition of the Sharjah Light Festival is set to take place in 14 locations across the city starting February 5 to 13, announced the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA) yesterday.

The festival will offer a unique combination of light and music to create three-dimensional designs using state-of-the-art techniques consuming minimal power. The artwork, which will be displayed on major buildings in the city, will highlight the historical heritage of Sharjah and its Islamic architecture.

Several new locations have been added to the list of the festival’s sites this year including Masjid Al Taqwa at Al Majaz Waterfront, Al Majaz Amphitheatre overlooking the Khalid Lagoon, the Cultural Square in Sharjah City, Masjid Al Muhajerin in Dibba Al Hisn, University of Sharjah campus in Khor Fakkan, and Masjid Ammar Bin Yasser in Dhaid.

Khalid Jasem Al Midfa, Director General of SCTDA pointed out there are two new attractions to watch out for this year, which are the Khalid Lagoon Corniche Light Design Show and Khalid Lagoon Giraffes’ Parade.

“For nine magical nights, the spotlight will be on the emirate as it glows in all its resplendent glory, creating a beautiful and harmonious blend of tradition and modernity,” he said.

This year’s festival will be a celebration of the announcement of Sharjah Arab Tourism Capital for 2015.
