1.Travel with friends: Bigger properties tend to be cheaper per person than smaller ones. They are also harder to rent, so they often have good deals.

2. Book the crossing early: At present, there are some great deals in Europe for ferry and Eurotunnel crossings. However, fares may
well rise closer to
departure.

3. Head north: If you are planning a UK break, holidays in places such as Northern England and Scotland are often better value.

4. Look out for promotions: There are special deals at theme parks at various times of the year. Plan your visit around these.

5. Ask for an upgrade: It's always worth asking to be upgraded to a better room.

6. Stock up at your local supermarket: If you are driving, buy non-perishable food items before you leave home — local shops are bound to be more expensive.

7. Load up: Take all the home equipment you think you will need rather than buying it abroad.

8. Save on kennels: Many travel companies will let you take your dog with you, provided it is well behaved.

9. Travel by bike: This is one of the best ways to see a country. And you'll get some exercise too!

10. Go to Iceland: Because of the collapse of the local currency, holidays in Iceland are now cheaper than they have been for years.
