funniest/ craziest/smartest ... We devote this page to them. This week, Raghda Thabet lists 10 reasons why all want to walk the same walk

Risk is risky A lot of people are missing out on the quality of being "unique" by fearing taking a risk. They just see what others have done and go ahead and do the same.

It worked before! If you are meeting a new person or neighbour and you want to break the ice, what would you say? Aha! the same things you'd said to the other person before and now that person is your friend or your good neighbour!

Blending in is comforting Some people who wish to become part of a social group are extra careful to downplay their individuality lest they don't blend in and lose out on being part of the posh crowd. Result? The same walk the same talk.

Ducking the rap If everyone is walking the same walk and talking the same talk and it ends up being all wrong there is safety in numbers at least. Imagine doing something silly and being the only one to do so?

Misery needs company People love to be comforted by the fact that they are not alone in their misery. It starts with one person talking about his misery, which triggers another's misery tale and so on. Soon, a happy circle of misery tales loops in on itself and all is well that ends well!

No time to stand apart and find your space Life is going by so fast, who has the time to elbow through the throngs to find a quiet spot for himself? It's easier to simply be pushed by the crowds. Plus you don't have to exert yourself if you are swimming against the tide.

Sleeve peeves In today's world of 'microscope eyes' every thread you wear is scrutinised. Who wants to take the risk of choosing a dress that might end up as a topic of mirth at a party? Just wear what everybody else is wearing. You will automatically escape the radar.

We are a family Family bonding is big these days so in a way walking the same walk is simply another way of proving how like-minded and close you are. That is a virtue you know.

It costs time and effort Okay, so you don't want to be like everyone else. Fine. But that means you need to know what you want to be. Sometimes it's not easy to know that. It takes months, years, perhaps even decades. Quite exhausting, really.

The path is already cleared Imagine entering a jungle for the first time. How do you know where to go and what route to take? Hacking your way, muscles straining, heart racing, mind in a bind ... no fun, all this uncertainty. Easiest thing to do is walk the path cleared by others who went before you. (Where they ended up is another story altogether!)
