The Proclaimers — twins Craig and Charlie Reid — were vocal last year in the debate about whether Scotland should leave the United Kingdom. The Scots twins, born in Edinburgh and raised in Fife, were all for independence. So what’s their take on the latest referendum to take place in the UK, about whether or not Britain should leave the European Union (also known as Brexit)?
“We’ll both vote to stay in Europe,” the Reids said in a joint interview via email.
“The EEC [European Economic Community, now better known as the EU] is very flawed but still worth preserving.”
It’s no surprise they will both vote the same way, as they tell us “we probably agree on most things”.
That includes their music, which they continue to work on together. “We write songs separately but collaborate on later stages.”
The twins, who are perhaps best known for their hit I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) (and their support of football team Hibernian), will play at Irish Village in Dubai on April 28.
“We have a new album out, so we will perform some tunes from that. Also, of course, better-known songs from our previous nine albums,” they said of what fans can expect from the show. “The UAE is great — the crowds are enthusiastic and the weather is dry.”
Up next, “we’ll begin work on a new album after we finish touring in late October.”
Don’t miss it!
The Proclaimers perform at The Irish Village at 9pm. Tickets are Dh125.
