As the Detroit motor show’s January date nears, our feverish expectations of the next-generation Chevrolet Corvette C7 just get more, well, feverish. The 2014 ‘Vette is slated to appear with a 5.5-litre engine, which is a version of GM’s newest small block V8.

- The 2014 ‘Vette is slated to appear with a 5.5-litre engine, which is a version of GM’s newest small block V8.
It should serve the rear wheels with 440bhp — which is 10 more than the current C6 manages with 700cc extra — but naturally there will be a mental ZR1 version, although we can’t rule out more environmentally friendly turbocharging over the traditional supercharging method favoured by Chevrolet.
The big news this week however, is that our spies managed to get a couple of snaps of the next ‘Vette’s much-more-premium interior, sporting what appear to be carbon-fibre-backed bucket seats and a thick leatherwrapped steering wheel.
The exterior features typical centre-mounted exhaust tips and LED taillights, while dimensions have been changed to house a longer wheelbase in a lighter and more compact body.
