German spies caught a largely undisguised Porsche 911 Turbo undergoing testing on public roads, months before the model’s global reveal — most likely at the Frankfurt show this September to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the 911.

So far these are the most revealing shots of the 991-generation Turbo we’ve received yet. They show off the car’s details such as the new front bumper with a low splitter, extra-wide air intakes on the rear flanks in the Turbo’s traditional position, give-away yellow Turbo brakes and a new rear spoiler, plus quad exhaust outlets.

As ever the Turbo will channel drive to all four wheels, providing them with at least 530 horsepower in order to take the fight to the improved 2013 Nissan GT-R worth 545bhp. But most interesting is how the power will be produced, as rumours are circulating about a triple-turbo set-up on the 911 Turbo’s flat-six engine.
